A visit to The Fragrant Garden in Havelock North
This garden had been designed to be fragrant all year around and even at night with plants like Bouvardia; an evening fragrance which fills the air with just a few blooms.
Let’s have a wander around…
Unlike most baths, which are enamel on steel, this porcelain bath is located outdoors and has a hot tap for winter or night bathing.
Within this circular garden you can smell the following:
Flowers
Roses
Lavender
Sweet Peas
Sweet William
Dianthus
Wallflower
Hyacinth
Shrubs
Pieris, a lily of the valley shrub
Bouvardia – a night fragrance. A scrambler rather than a climber.
Philadelphus
Viburnum various
Winter Sweet
Daphne
Lilac
Yellow Bird Magnolia
Velvet and Cream Magnolia
Witch Hazel
Sarcacocca
a mystery bush smelling of lemon
and a Camphor Tree
You too can bathe in this garden at St Andrews Escape in Havelock North, in the North Island of New Zealand.
The Fragrant Garden above is one of 5 different gardens within the property. Let’s keep strolling…
Tomorrow night we have a look at a zephyr in the sky at night.
I wonder if this would be a good spot for the Perfume People next Easter break? A writers conference? Vineyard tours in the afternoon led by Undina? There are mountain-bike trails for the kids and an outdoor dining area for the evening’s repast.
Wishing you Fragrant Dreams,
Jordan River
Easter Weekend 2013
Fragrant Journey to
St Andrews Escape in Havelock North, in the North Island of New Zealand.
Oh how I would love to meet up with fragrant friends in such a place!!
beautiful Jordan and will be revisiting time and time again!
See you here Easter 2014.
I can make the cookies. Husband will bike with the kids. 😉
Now I am going for sure, cookie queen!!
Sounds like a plan. We can drive to the vineyards. Hubby and the kids can come and find us via the Tākaro bike trails.
I mean Hubbie can take care of all the kids that are there, he is a profi teacher/rider! Am I right in my understanding that you are sending me and Brie our flights??? 😉
What a lovely idea.
What a lovely place! There’s a botanical garden not far from here. I don’t go there nearly enough. Perhaps this year I should make it a point to. Someday I’d love to see New Zealand. I don’t know if hubby and I could stand the long flight though.
There are 24 hours in a day. A short commute really.
Beautiful post, Jordan.
See you here next year for some beautiful writing?
What a lovely, heavenly garden! Thank you for the tour. I hope to be able to visit New Zealand some day. 😉
We would welcome you Lilybelle. The shrub mentioned above in the list is waiting for you.
Are those white lilacs hanging over the arbour in the photo in the 2nd Javascript box? My word, how lovely!! The orchid of white trees all in a row looks incredible. And there is wormwood there too! How utterly spectacular!
Wistful Wisteria.
So gorgeous! Thank you for showing us around!
Armchair traveling. Olfactoria does travel!
Wow love the pics and description of the night blooming Bouvardia it sounds divine. I want to go there!
A hop, skip and a jump for you. Perfume Writers conference Easter 2014?
Sounds fab!
That is a beautiful garden. Thank you for sharing, Jordan.
Does Cool Cook Style cook outdoors?
Nope. Can’t. Live in Manhattan.
I’ll need to read upon New Zeland’s wines but, in general, love the idea! 🙂
Thank you for showing us those pictures, Jordan!
Suggest drinking up rather than reading up Undina! All research is good though. I have only tried American wine from Sonoma Valley whilst in Asia. All that I tried was most excellent. We have fields of Pinot Noir all over the place. Cheerful!
Reblogged this on i love havelock north.
